Fit to govern?

24 November 2005

In an interview given to Channel Television on election night, shortly after the results had been declared, Deputy Geoff Southern - apparently well on his way to a guranteed hangover - gave away the reality of his strategy, and that of his colleague Shona Pitman, to win seats for the JDA under false pretences.

The interview gives a new insight into the minds and motivations of these two successful candidates. It needs no further introduction from Elect Jersey 2005. Please click here to go to the report on Channel's new web site, which includes the video clip for broadband users.

This seems an opportune moment to revisit the principles that brought Elect Jersey 2005 into being. Click here to read them. Whilst overall we believe that the results in the 2005 elections reflect a degree of improvement in the calibre of our elected assembly, there is no doubt that some exceptions slipped through.
