2005 Jersey Elections

The 2005 elections are the most important to take place in Jersey for two generations. After the elections the States will appoint Jersey’s first ever executive government – the Council of Ministers. The island faces economic, political and social challenges unprecedented since the second world war. With this site we aim to help voters get easy access to information about candidates and their policies and make better-informed decisions at the ballot box.

Why bother voting? Apathy rules in Jersey politics. We risk being overrun by the whinging minority! You've made a great start by being here - this page sets out the case for using your vote.

What are the key dates? Not sure when the elections are? Or the hustings meetings? Our key dates page has the answers. You'll also find links to our reports on all the hustings meetings.

Who's running for Senator? Some familiar faces, some new. Some winners, some losers! This page is your starting-point for seeing who wants your vote.

Who's running for Deputy? They don't have to declare until 25 October but there are already some early birds on the list. We list them here.

Candidate videos. We invited all the independent candidates to make a short film for our web site. We felt strongly that this would improve accessibility for the many people who can't get to the hustings meetings. See and hear the candidates talk about their visions, records and policies here.

Hustings reports. We're planning to cover all the hustings. We don't want to give you a bland JEP-style version: if we see greatness or ineptitude we'll tell you.

Which district am I in? You probably know your post code and your phone number, but do you know your electoral district? If you live in St Helier, St Brelade or St Saviour you need to. We've posted some useful telephone numbers and a web link here to help you contact the people with the answers.

How do I register to vote? We've compiled information to get people registered and voting. This page explains eligibility and how to register.

Can I vote by post or in advance? The answer's yes, as long as you have a bona fide reason, and all the information you need (including the application forms) is here.

*If the information you're looking for isn't in one of these pages, please feel free to e-mail us any questions. We will try to get an answer to you as soon as possible!
